Rear brakes
Remove the rear wheel and unbolt the calipers . Undo the brake pipes exactly as the front ( again make provision for fluid loss). Turn the handbrake OFF. Usually the rear discs will come after a bit of a struggle . If they don’t the handbrake shoes are probably still on . These can be de adjusted through a hole in the rear disc that is covered by a rubber grommet . There is a star adjuster which can be turned either way with a small screwdriver . Slacken this and the discs should remove ok.. This will reveal the handbrake shoes still in situ. Do NOT touch them unless they are to be replaced and this is rarely necessary. The R34 rear discs are much larger than the stagea ones and the dust cover cannot be made to clear the discs as it has a large lip There are 2 choices 1 fit larger dust covers - GTR ones fit straight on but this means you have to take the shafts out of the diff and take apart and reassemble the handbrake shoes and springs. This is much more work and the dust cover only protects one side of the disc anyway the other is open. 2 Modify it - A small angle grinder will make short work of the plate . you can either cut the lip off or cut the whole cover. . I did the latter as it looks a lot neater . You are separating the outside of the cover from the part with the handbrake shoes on which remain You can now replace the discs . They should slide over the shoes as long as you have not touched the handbrake and it is still off .All skylines/stagea use the same diameter shoes .The shoes can be slackened off as above if things are tight. Once the disc is on then check the adjustment of the handbrake and adjust as required. using the star adjuster. again with the handbrake still off When this is done replace the grommet.. The rear calipers will fit on the discs easily as long as the pads are open to their maximum. Bolt them up using the brembo callipers bolts ( different threads to old ones) Brake pipes can be then fitted . The rears are the same male-female fixing so you don’t need the rear pipes although they will fit perfectly

This is not a particularly difficult upgrade and is one that will really make a difference. Stagea brakes are not up to a lot as standard and although R32/R33 brakes will fit the best Nissan option is to fit Gold brembos from a late R34GTR V spec. as they are the biggest . The existing Stagea master cylinder will work fine . ONE THING – DO NOT TOUCH ANY PART OF THE ABS SYSTEM
The R34 GTR Brembo callipers and discs will bolt on but you will need to do the following:-
Front brakes
First thing check the wheels offset as the Gold Brembo calipers are much larger .You will need about 15mm clearance between the existing stagea callipers and wheels for the gold brembos to fit. You can use spacers but if you do it is advisable to use the same ones on the rear wheels as well. The R34 GTR callipers have14mm bolts. Most stageas have 12mm although a few do have 14mm ones ( no one knows why. If you have 12mm bolts at present you will need to enlarge the holes in the carrier or fit inserts into the callipers. Also the Stagea brake pipes have a banjo fitting whereas GTRs have the normal male/female unions Other than this the front callipers and discs will fit fine.
